I work closely with PhD candidates to create custom visual designs that reflect both their research and their personality. Whether it is through a bold, symbolic cover or subtle, hand-drawn illustrations inspired by your field, the final result is always personal and meaningful.

Process

1. First talk
An in-person meeting or call (via phone or zoom) to know you, your research, and your vision. This takes usually one hour (but it is flexible to each person).
You do not need to have a concept in mind - that is what I am here for. I will guide you with the thoughtful questions to get a feel for who you are and what your research is about. From there, ideas begin to form. Come as you are! -
2. Design proposal
Concept sketches, or initial layout directions.
As part of the early stage, I will create a few concept sketches to explore different directions your design could take. This might include rough visuals, color palettes, and general composition ideas. This part usually takes 3 to 5 days and sets the creative tone for everything that follows. -
3. Second talk
A call (via phone or zoom) where I will walk you through the initial design proposal, including sketches, color palettes, and visual direction.
This is a space to explore how the concept feels to you and make sure we are heading in the right direction. Your feedback here will guide any refinements moving forward. -
4. Final design & delivery
Once the direction is confirmed, I will work on the final design and prepare everything for delivery. You get your files as pdf with the correct print marks for the printer.
I mainly work with PhD candidates in the Netherlands, so I am familiar with local guidelines and university procedures. You can relax knowing the practical side is in good hands.
This phase usually takes between 3 to 6 days, depending on the services included. -
BONUS
Your design is entirely handmade - a piece of original artwork. This means there is a physical painting behind your thesis cover, and it is yours to keep.
It is already included in the design price.
So you do not only have a meaningful image on your cover - you also take home a beautiful memory, something you can hang on your wall or keep on your desk as a reminder of your journey.
It also includes a certificate of authenticity. -

To ensure each project receives the attention and care it deserves, I take on only a limited number of thesis designs each month.
If you are interested, please reach out between 2-3 months before your defense to reserve a spot.
If you are running out of time, I also offer an express service. This allows for a faster turnaround, but please note that it comes with a higher fee due to the urgency and priority scheduling.

Do I need to have an idea before we start?
No, you do not need to prepare anything. I will guide you through the process and ask the right questions to find a concept that fits you and your thesis.
How long does it take?
Depending on the scope, the full process - from our first conversation to final delivery, typically takes between 2 to 3 weeks.
Do you work with any type of thesis, regardless of the field?
Yes, I do. I work with PhD candidates from many different disciplines, from neuroscience, to humanities, psychology, medical sciences, engineering, social sciences. Each field brings its own inspiration, and I enjoy discovering the visual language that fits your specific subject and story. No matter the topic, I am happy to help create a design that feels like yours.
Do you also print the thesis?
I do not handle printing myself, but I can recommend thesis printers in the Netherlands.
